Back in the mid 1980's Lagoon decided it was time to do something with their old swimming pool and give guests a whole new experience. For over a decade water parks had been growing in popularity and Lagoon didn't want to miss the opportunity to get their very own. They contracted Leisure and Recreation Concepts Inc. to design a brand new water park that would replace Lagoon's swimming pool.

In 1988, Lagoon announced the last season of their million gallon swimming and "water fit to drink". The old swimming pool became a mere memory at the end of the season. The following season in July Lagoon introduced their brand new water park with it's variety of slides, pools, and water features. The water park gained popularity very rapidly and many guests found it a great way to escape the summer's heat.

Lagoon-A-Beach was originally not included with an all-day passport. At the time, an all-day passport was only $14.95 and it cost an extra $8.50 to enter the water park. Lagoon also sold a "Ride & Slide" pass for $19.95 that would allow the pass holder to visit the park, and Lagoon-A-Beach. Soon, the park increased their admission and included the slides in the all-day passport.

Lagoon-A-Beach has changed a bit since it first opened. Around Blue Lagoon there used to be water cannons that park guests could use to shoot a stream of water at those swimming. This was very popular and probably very annoying which was most likely the reason for their removal.

Four of the slides have also been modified. The serpentine slides and speed slides were changed and the serpentine slides were painted blue. Like most changes Lagoon makes to anything on the park, this was probably due to safety concerns.
